day no. 14,720: two by two by two

1 Corinthians 11:2-6
Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you. 3 But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God. 4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head, 5 but every wife who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since it is the same as if her head were shaven. 6 For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head. 7 For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man.

TWO HEADS

I once heard it said that anything with two heads is a monster. And so it is for the Godhead, the church, and the home. Hierarchy is not a result of the Fall. It does not spring up from the ash heap of a ruined civilization, but comes down to us as a model of the highest Heaven.

TWO OPTIONS

For a man to give his strength to his wife is to dishonor his commanding officer. If a general puts a man in charge of a battalion, it dishonors the general for that man to shirk the privilege and responsibility he was given. The general chose him for the task, so what does it say about the man's respect of the general if he acts as though he is free to listen or not, obey or disobey, execute or delegate his assigned task?

Given the reality of this, a wife is also left with two choices: be under the head assigned to her through her marriage vows or be out from under her head. It is not graceful to let your head think you are under them while letting everyone else know who's really in charge around here... that is disgraceful. Either because it's not true and it's a lie or because it is true and it's a shame.

TWO GLORIES

Man is the glory of God and woman is the glory of man. These two glories are not competing against each other for last glory standing or America's next best glory. These are complementary glories. There is an order to them and there is a purpose unique to them, but they are not in a position to change their position. These are statements of fact. Man IS the glory of God, even when he acts like his Y chromosome makes him a second class citizen. Woman IS the glory of man, even when she acts like she wears the pants. The man is still the glory of God when he's reneging his responsibilities -- he's just reflecting it poorly. The woman is still the glory of man when she's tongue-lashing his position --- she's just reflecting it poorly.
