day no. 15,136: classical combat

"Without mastery of basic warfighting skills, artistry and creativity in their application are impossible." -- MCDP 1-3: Tactics

If you don't know the grammar of battle, you can't enjoy the rhetoric. You will want to wax rhetorical and you will rush into the realm of creativity, but you won't be prepared for it and you will lose.

Basic warfighting skills are the grammar of battle

2 Corinthians 10:3-5
For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.

Strategy is the logic of understanding how those skills complement each other, how they fit and which are necessary in order for others to flourish. Rhetoric is the realm of creative, courageous application.

There is artistry in the artillery.

The art of war is not possible without the mastery of the mechanics of warfighting. Basic skills and mechanics are the grammar of battle These skills provide the character required to go forward. Then logic provides the script and lastly rhetoric provides the drama of performance, nuance, subtlety, artistry, creativity and ultimately... victory!
