Hebrews 4:2

² For we also have received the good news just as they did; but the message they heard did not benefit them, since they were not united with those who heard it in faith

God once saved a large mixed multitude through the red sea as they fled from Pharaoh. They heard the news that "God was good and worthy of all our praise!" He saved them through the trials of Egypt and the red sea parting. But most of them died in the wilderness in disobedience and unbelief. They did not enter the eternal rest of God because they did not believe the Good News that "God is good and worthy of all our praise!"

It is the same for us. We've heard the Jesus is alive and worthy of praise. Unless hearing is met with believing, it does not save.
