Before The Throne

Listen HERE.

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong, a perfect plea:
A great High Priest, whose name is Love,
Who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on his hands,
My name is written on his heart;
I know that while in heaven he stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart
No tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair,
And tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look, and see him there
Who made an end of all my sin.
Because a sinless Savior died,
My sinful soul is counted free;
For God, the Just, is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me
To look on Him and pardon me

Behold him there, the risen Lamb
My perfect, spotless righteousness,
The great unchangeable I AM,
The King of glory and of grace!
One in himself, I cannot die
My soul is purchased by his blood
My life is hid with Christ on high,

With Christ, my Savior and my God
With Christ, my Savior and my God

  1. Great song. Chris Rice has a beautiful version of it on his Peace Like A River: The Hymns Project. Thanks for the invitation to your blog from Paige's. I'm adding it to my RSS feed. :)

  2. Although I'm usually all about organs with my hymns, Shane and Shane does a pretty decent cover of this hymn. Happy to see more VV blogs, but I have to ask: Are the Van Voorsts planning a coup of the interwebz? Because I'd be okay with that.

  3. Emily - Thank you for taking the time to read. I have the Chris Rice version as well from the album you mentioned. I love it.

    Crislers - Yes, it's gonna get all sorta Van Voorst up in this interwebz. I have the acoustic version of Shane and Shane in my catalogue and Paige really digs it. (if "dig" and hymn are appropriately matched vernacular that is)
