Amos 5:4-5
For thus saith the Lord unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live: But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nought.
Q: Is it okay to ask for help?
A: It depends who you ask.
Some say that asking for help is already a failure.
Some say that asking for help is already a victory.
But it really depends on who you ask for help. It is always a sin to ask an idol for help. It is a sin to trust them to assist you. The plea can be for better crops or to see more crop tops, but if it is made to an idol, it is sin, regardless of the content of the request. To ask noble things of ignobility is to betray both logic and the Lord.
God says, "Don't look to idols for help, look to Me."
Isaiah 45:22
Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
It is paramount that we look to God for help and that we look to Him for the kind of help we need. If we bring to Him wicked requests, we will find danger, not deliverance. If we look somewhere else for righteousness, we will find disappointment, not redemption. But if we look to Him for what we need, He will withhold no good thing from those who look to Him. Those who ask Him rightly receive. Those who knock rightly at the right Door are welcomed (John 10:9). Those who seek the right things the right way find them.
