day no. 16,513: where straight and white become bent and benighted

Ecclesiastes 10:18

Through sloth the roof sinks in, and through indolence the house leaks.

Roofs only appear to cave in all of a sudden. They typically collapse little by little until at the point of crescendo they appear to fall down in a moment. In other words, cave ins have been caving for a long time and the denouement happens all at once only after years of rot and inattention.

Hebrews 2:1

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.

Drift is easy. Anyone can do it!!!

It takes great pains to pay attention. It requires effort to remain unchanged. A white fence must constantly be attended to and cared for if it is to remain a white fence. Without attention, the elements will have their way with it and what was once straight and white will be crooked and grey. That about sums up what we're seeing everywhere: straight and white becoming bent and benighted.

Anything which is not aggressively, explicitly, unapologetically orthodox is already on its way to becoming openly, defiantly, and unapologetically unorthodox. To refuse identify as devout is telltale sign of unfaithfulness. It is its own kind and genus of waywardness that paves the way for the gaudy kind of wickedness anyone can see when it eventually arrives at the library with Halloween hair and a ball gown. It is a seed of straying that blooms into the fruit of fruitiness. To be squishy on hard facts is to be lame in approach which grows up into gay in conduct.
