Numbers 8
Priests must be set apart. In order to serve as mediators between God and man, they must be apart from men in general and apart for God in particular. They must be a hybrid of heavenly holiness and earthly manliness. The must be every man and no man at the same time. They must represent all people and be a different kind of person simultaneously. To carry the weight of all men, they must carry the weight of being a different kind of man. And so it was that Jesus, the perfect Mediator, was a hybrid of every man and no man, of earth and sky, of holiness and humility. He was God and man, the God-man, who was and is and will always be our great High Priest. Tempted as every man and able to relate to His brothers, yet without sin and able to to save His brothers.
