Psalm 86
Unite my heart to fear Your Name. This prayer request points to the fact that our hearts are often divided. There is part of us that desires to know God, love Him and follow Him in each and every moment and there is part of us that desires to be left alone to do what we want. Our hearts often contain gated communities tucked away safely outside of our inner town squares. The prayer here acknowledges these places and also a certain powerlessness of our own ability to unify our heart under one zip code. If our hearts are to be united for God alone, He will have to invade the abandoned buildings of our inner ghettos as well as the towering skyscrapers of our inner industry. He must conquer every district and plant an unflagging devotion to Him alone.
