Leviticus 27:32-33
And every tithe of herds and flocks, every tenth animal of all that pass under the herdsman's staff, shall be holy to the Lord. 33 One shall not differentiate between good or bad, neither shall he make a substitute for it; and if he does substitute for it, then both it and the substitute shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.
Tithing animals was a matter of setting aside every tenth animal. One was not to judge it "good" or "bad." It was simply to be set apart because it was the tenth one to pass by. If one judged it "good" and as a result tried to substitute for it in order to try to avoid giving up a good one, the good one was still to be given as well as the substitute. Trying to rig the system in order to come out ahead ended in having less than if you had simply obeyed. Sin always takes you further than you want to go, faster than you want to get there, costs more than you were willing to pay, and keeps you longer than you wanted to stay.
