day no. 17,159: flatterproof

“Bright lights attract big bugs.” — George Grant

If you are going places, people are going to want to come along for the ride. And the better the place that you're headed is, the worse the quality of the people who will want to jump on your bandwagon.

Sycophants like other people's success. The sycophant's only measure of personal success if having successfully latched on to a trend. The more a productive man achieves, the more it is worth the efforts of the suck ups to deceive. If they latch on to a dimwit, they can't expect much illumination, but if they attach themselves to a rising star, they imagine that they may just get to see the world.

Proverbs 27:6
Faithful are the wounds of a friend;
but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

So, if you're going where God has you and gaining some attention, pay attention to those who want in on the action. Be flatterproof. Know your God and know your limits and don't let anyone blow sunshine while you're blowing up.
