And God said to Abraham, “As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations. 10 This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised."
The sign of this covenant was available only to males for through them the promised Serpent Crusher was destined to arrive. This promise of God would be fulfilled specifically by a male child born under the Law and as such the sign of this particular aspect of the covenant was placed at the very point of reproduction.
