day no. 17,042: you snooze, you lose

“Sleep is a great giant, and the time to defeat it is in the early morning when it has you pinned to the mattress.” — Douglas Wilson, A Hole Under His Nose

Every morning begins with you pinned to the mat. The Sleep Giant sits on your chest and holds your shoulders down. Do not tap out by hitting the snooze. Do not start your day with an L. Fight the good fight and get upright. Sleep is a feature, not a bug; but sleeping in is often a sin that bites you in the bottom.

Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

God has good works in the chamber ready for you to fire off, but they begin with you pulling the trigger on getting out of bed. God has good work planned for you that requires you to walk.

Matthew 11:12
And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

You cannot doze your way into good deeds. The kingdom of Christ is not one of catching a few more winks. On the contrary, it is going into the fray with both eyes wide open.

1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

So, get up and get to work.

The Son of God rose from the dead; you can get yourself out of bed.
