day no. 15,232: a well-oiled machine produces well-trained men

"Every Marine, from the Commandant down, is a follower. The good followers, those who may be depended on to carry out their instructions precisely, without regard to difficulty, hazard, or personal risk, are the substance of the Corps. And where combat circumstance, as it often does, suddenly thrust upon the follower the responsibilities of a leader, those who are properly indoctrinated seize the opportunity and succeed.” -- MCWP 6-10

Good leaders prepare their followers to lead.

Genesis 14:14

And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.

Good leaders are good followers and good followers make good leaders.

1 Corinthians 11:1

Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

Every leader must follow and lead in such a way as to prepare the next person to lead in their absence, to pass the baton and to carry on the discipline of leading by following and leading followers to lead.

2 Timothy 2:1-4

You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also. Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.
