Genesis 50:3
Forty days were required for it, for that
is how many are required for embalming.
40 is typically a number in the Bible associated
with testing. I can imagine for the 10 sons of Israel (sans Benjamin) these 40
days were filled with sorrow over the loss of their father and apprehension
wondering what Joseph might do to them once he was through mourning.
I never thought about how long those forty days must've felt to the brothers, who didn't know how Joseph would act at the end of it all.
