day no. 14,275: no one plays the lottery unless everyone is playing the lottery

Have you ever noticed that no one plays the lottery unless everyone is playing the lottery? You can go years without even remembering that there is a lottery, but once the jackpot crosses a certain threshold it is all you hear about. Then everyone you know is buying a ticket because, "ya know, why not?" Most people do not play the lottery until most people are playing the lottery.

And so it seems also that most people who would call themselves Christians do not buy into broad cultural shifts unless everyone is buying into them. If we are not renewed in our minds, we ebb and flow with the tides. We are no more immune to throwing down $10 on a one in a trillion chance of winning $500 million than we are to buying into gender confusion and abortion culture IF we are not anchored to anything deeper.

Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
