1 Corinthians 11:2
Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you. 3 But I want you to understand...
The trajectory has been well documented. The first generation believes, the next assumes and the last abandons. The first receives it all, the second receives the form without the substance and the third rejects the whole she-bang!
Paul was very happy to hear that the Corinthians had embraced the traditions he delivered to them, but he wanted to make sure they understood the "why?" behind the "what?"
You have to know what to do, but you must know why you do what you do. We must know what we believe and why we believe it and pass down to our children what we do and why we do it if we want to avoid watching our grandchildren abandon the fort altogether.
