day no. 16,980: grace upon grace

“Those who are saved by grace through faith need to make sure that they leave material evidence of that grace behind him. We are not plowing the sand. The gospel really is a gospel that is all of grace, nothing but grace. And at the same time, we are commanded to walk in a manner that is worthy of that grace (Eph. 4:1; Phil. 1:27; Col. 1:10; 1 Thess. 2:12; 2 Thess. 1:11). And walking worthy has an impact. Walking worthy gets things done (Eph. 2:10).” — Douglas Wilson, Healing for George Washington

If you have received the grace of God, give your loved ones the grace of not having to guess.

Demonstrate your faith by your good works.

Work hard to store up a lifetime of tangible evidence so that those you leave behind might not have to work so hard to be amateur Sherlocks in order to figure out if you were a Christian.

In addition to that grace you give them, the good works you leave behind go to work on your behalf for your people after you are gone and provide them with foundations on which to build and scaffolding from which to keep the building project going forward. It is grace upon grace. You received it and you give it to your descendants. What you received you give. You make it easier for them to obey God in honoring you and make it easier for them to impress their merits upon your grandchildren.

Grace saves, but not without doing something about it.

Those who want us to plow sand can pound sand.
