day no. 16,974: love fights fear

“Fight the thing that you fear.” — G.K. Chesterton, The Man Who Was Thursday: A Nightmare

If you fear anything more than Christ, you must fight it.

Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.

You must be more afraid of failing God than you are of failing to captivate the crowd. You must pursue the approval of your Father in Heaven more than you flee from the disapproval of the world.

Matthew 10:28
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Many fear for the lives, but too few fear for their deaths. They are scared of the wrong end of the equation. They exhaust themselves trying to escape the inevitable as they perform for the fickle, but the fear of God is a source of strength.

Genesis 31:42
Except the fear of Isaac had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty.

The fear of God provides power to push on and perspective for that which we encounter.

Romans 8:37
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

We are, of course, more than conquerors in Christ who loved us, but we are not less.

So, let us face our fears and put them down.

1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear.

The fear of God fights your frights. It casts them aside as it conquers.

Love fights fear.
