Genesis 35:11
And God said to him, “I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall come from your own body.”
A man's household is like a nation in microcosm. In a home, a man's children share much in common, while having varied interests. One may master music while another makes conquest of cooking. One may subdue sewing while another rules over arithmetic. All that to say, in a family, one has the freedom to pursue their own interests and the privilege of learning how to be interested in other's pursuits. These are the kind of things around which nations are made. Nations contain individuals with varied interests. They share, however, an interest in their nation and its unique interests be they geographical, economical, theological, historical, etc... These nations then live in the neighborhood of other nations.
Philippians 2:4
Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
The aim of Christendom is a company of nations interested in the commands of Christ in common, yet holding respective interests to which those commands are applied. We are not commanded to abandon all interest, but rather to develop and cultivate an interest in other people's interests.
Imagine a world where nations are free to have their own interests and freely expressed interest in their neighboring nations and their adjacent interests. That is the image of Christendom and it is coming soon to a planet near you.
