“'Naturally, therefore, these people talk about ‘a happy time coming’; ‘the paradise of the future’; ‘mankind freed from the bondage of vice and the bondage of virtue,’ and so on. And so also the men of the inner circle speak—the sacred priesthood. They also speak to applauding crowds of the happiness of the future, and of mankind freed at last. But in their mouths'—and the policeman lowered his voice—'in their mouths these happy phrases have a horrible meaning. They are under no illusions; they are too intellectual to think that man upon this earth can ever be quite free of original sin and the struggle. And they mean death. When they say that mankind shall be free at last, they mean that mankind shall commit suicide. When they talk of a paradise without right or wrong, they mean the grave." — G.K. Chesterton, The Man Who Was Thursday: A Nightmare
Our self-appointed liberators know that humanity is flawed and yet desires to be free. Because they are flawed, they cannot be expected to rule themselves well. But because they want to be free, they will not tolerate being governed.
The politicians do not trust the people to govern themselves, but trust themselves to govern the people. For them, humanity always refers to everyone in the world minus them. The people who need to be governed are, of course, other people. They are, mind you, the governors.
When these peddlers of Utopia offer security, they have in mind a jail cell with three meals a day and thick walls to keep you safe. When these deliverers offer rest and relaxation, they have in mind a crematorium. In short, when they present rest and peace, what they mean is Rest In Peace.
“They have but two objects, to destroy first humanity and then themselves. That is why they throw bombs instead of firing pistols. The innocent rank and file are disappointed because the bomb has not killed the king; but the high-priesthood are happy because it has killed somebody.” — G.K. Chesterton, The Man Who Was Thursday: A Nightmare
As far as the overpopulation police are concerned, there are no innocent bystanders. Collateral damage is an impossibility when everyone is the target. They are not attempting to sniper certain someones, but rather attempting to eliminate superfluous anyones. The new priesthood offers up everyone else on the altar of their conceit, but they fail to account for the profits of the hoi polloi. You cannot steal anyone else's produce if there is no longer anyone else. The plans of the impetuous are an impossibility. They cannot have what they want. Their petulance keeps them from perceiving what is plain -- God looked at His handiwork and called it all "very good."
