Zechariah 2:5
I will be to her a wall of fire all around, declares the LORD, and I will be the glory in her midst.
God is a pillar of fire for those who love Him. He establishes a perimeter that consumes any who would attempt a breach. He is a wall of fire surrounding His people. He is also a fire within their midst. He burns within their respective hearts and in the atmosphere of their communion with one another. He is a flame inside igniting faith and good works accompanying the proclamation of His Name. He is a fire in the camp that keeps everyone warm and fed.
2 Timothy 1:6
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
Our God is a fire for us. Fire is dangerous. If it were not, it could not protect, it could not cook. It must be hot in order to be of help. Fire is a friend when it burns for you and against those who come against you. God is that fire. A glory that guards the gates and a glory that grips the guts. He lives and burns outside us as a wall and inside us a wellspring. He renders our enemies impotent. He burns up their attacks from without and from within. He cleanses His people with fire that consumes His enemies. His people are protected and purified while His enemies are charred and discarded.
God is a wall of fire around us and a call to fire within us. He is heat all around us and abounding within us. He is a flame that surrounds outside to save and abounds inside to sanctify.
