Psalm 130:5-6
I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.
If you’ve ever been driving through the night, dead tired, but trudging on, you know the hope of destination. If you’ve ever been awake in bed overnight in a strange place as a child watching for morning, you get it. If you’ve ever been at work watching the clock waiting for quitting time, you understand.
The watchman was at work and the sunrise was his queue to punch out. The watchman was on edge, scanning the horizon, eyes peeled, ears attentive, nerves taught. Like driving through a snow storm with poor visibility and poorer road conditions, every muscle fiber is active until the destination reached.
This is how we wait for the Lord. We sit on the edge of our seat like 4th and goal with one second left in the game. We lean in like a full count with bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th. We anticipate an outcome, we hope for the best, we struggle to stay optimistic and then… glorious, triumphant, resolution! We arrive, the sun comes up, the danger is diverted, the roads are cleared, the fear is gone, the food is found.
Sweet release. Every mental and physical fiber of our being sighs in relief and sinks into bed, exhausted, fulfilled, comforted and grateful.
Christ is the ultimate catharsis. For Him the world waits and at His coming, the saints will sigh with relief and rejoicing forevermore.
Maranatha! Come,
Lord Jesus. Come quickly!
Revelation 22:20-21
He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.
