Exodus 15:25
And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord
showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.
God can turn our bitterness to sweetness.
He doesn't do this by calling bitter sweet, that would be a categorical sin
(Isaiah 5:20). He does so by converting
our current bitterness to the presence of sweetness. He doesn't remove the
memory of bitter years or pretend that they never were bitter. He doesn't ask
you to act like life wasn't bitter. It's not sleight of hand, making things
appear differently though they're still the same underneath the candy coating.
No, God acknowledges fully your former bitterness by contrasting it in the celebration of the current sweetness of it all. God removes the bitter taste from our mouths
and replaces it with sugar. He doesn't use sugar substitute. He provides actual
sweetness… just as real as the bitterness was.
