There's no doubt about it, if things were different things would be different. The unregenerate impulse is to wish that reality was different. The modern evangelical impulse is to parrot the unregenerate impulse with a thin veneer of Christianese. The doctrine of the sovereignty of God, safeguarded by the sons of Calvin, however, maintain that things are the way they are for a reason and that nothing but good can come from the for God's elect. The times are the servants of God and do His bidding without exception. If the desires of God do not match the decrees of God, it is not for a lack of His ability. The times have not gotten away from Him or on top of Him. He is at the mercy of nothing and no one. If we believe things ought to be different, we must repent and reform to what God has clearly communicated. We cannot go to war with reality an expect to win. We can, however, go to war with the principalities of our times and expect to prosper as the God of reality is on our side. In the end, the only "truth" that will survive is the Truth. In the end, the only "way" to fix our current ways is by returning to the Way. In the end, the only "life" that is truly life, is the Life that sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
