day no. 16,479: Atticus is FIFTEEN!

Happy 15th birthday, Atticus!

Today you turn 15 years old, 23 years tall, and 2 years mustachioed. You are growing in wisdom, in stature, and favor with God and with others. You are a strapping young lad.

You love guns and know everything about them. You love war and the history of battles. You love tanks. You love building guns and tanks out of Legos. You love patrolling the backyard and playing out battle tactics. You love airsoft guns and dueling with friends. You've been shot in the lip and lived to talk about it. All that to say, you love the story God has written you into, especially the battle scenes.

You are a hard worker. You mow lawns in the hot sun and rake leaves in the cool autumn breeze. You carry rocks and wash dishes. You buckle babies into their seats and carry in the groceries.

You are growing up. You like a good cigar and a good scotch. You like hot sauce and second helpings. You like a good Ocktoberfest and a good book. You enjoy listening to the men talk and still have fun with the kids running around after service.

You are a good brother to your siblings. You love them and look out for them. You don't throttle the little smash brothers too much, but you do rattle them enough to remind them that you're bigger and to give them practice taking on giants.

You are a good friend. You are generous and kind to your friends and look for ways to serve them and bring joy to their lives. You like most people and make an effort to get along where and when you can.

You are a good son. You love your mother and me and look for ways to honor us. You apologize when you speak out of line and you ask us for advice and counsel when you're trying to make decisions.

You are a good artist. I love your Skeeter Wars series and all the doodles and drawings you do. I am excited to see your Kill the Dragon comic when it is completed as well as all the other ideas you have in the hopper for future comic book ideas.

You like my Postmillitant account and enjoy reviewing the days posts and correspondence. You like seeing how the sausage is made in preparing the slides or spicing them up with soundtracks or visual effects.

You are responsible, fun, strong, honest, hard-working, serious, and reliable. In short, you are very Atticus. Many of the little boys at church look up to you. I am glad they get to have you as a role model and have heard from other dads that they hope their sons grow up to be like you.

Happy 15th birthday, Atticus.

I love being your dad. I am very proud of you. I thank God for you and am excited to have a front row seat to see all that He will do through you and for you in these formative years in our home before you leave to build your own.

I love you,

Dad.
