Those who presume to have God at their disposal are merely at the mercy of the devil. Those who believe that they can harness Heaven are being driven by Hell. God cannot be corralled or contained and those who think they have Him under their thumb are in the grip of sin.
You cannot employ wicked means to obtain righteous ends. You cannot use socialism to fight socialism. A young woman cannot convince a young man of the merits of chastity by discussing it from the back seat of his car. You cannot win someone to conviction through compromise. What you use to win someone you will need to do to keep them. You cannot fudge the truth in order to win someone to the truth.
You cannot wield the sword unrighteously and end up with a righteous society. You cannot use the ring of power without ending up with a corrupted result. To use the ring is to lose, even if you use it to win.
