day no. 17,486: heralds and hellscapes

"If our God were deaf, dumb, and blind — like theirs — this should be of no concern whatever. What should it matter to them if we all gather in a room in order to talk and sing to the ceiling? But this is not what is happening. We worship and serve the living and ruling Christ, and those who try to ignore His sovereignty through lies are thrown into a panic when Christians rediscover the truth." — Douglas Wilson, So Come and Welcome to Jesus Christ

We become like that which we worship. Those who worship idols become like them: deaf, dumb, blind, and dead. Those who worship the living God become like Him: seeing, hearing, speaking, living beings.

If our worship services were as bland as theirs, they would pay them no mind. But they know, even if we have forgotten, that our worship services move the world. The powers and principalities of darkness know that they cannot combat this head on and that the gates of their fortress will fall to the battering ram of Christian worship, and so they try to convince us to stop worshiping or to treat it as a thing of indifference. Like Balaam and Balak, they cannot curse the people of God, but they can convince them to bring curses upon themselves by refusing to follow the Word of God.

Unbelievers know that the Word of God rules the world and so they try to convince the heralds to stop speaking it. Christians need to rediscover the truth and reality of the power and authority God has placed into their worship. The Lord inhabits the praises of His people and uses them to splinter the holdouts of Hellscapes.
