Psalm 51
There are few things worse than the feeling
of knowing you have let God down. You've brought shame to your testimony and
ultimately against your God. Now what? In Pilgrim's Progress, Apollyon points
out Christian's backslidings and suggests it is now time to return to Satan. He
points out that sin will always take him back, but God may not.
In this psalm, David confirms his
allegiance to God's undeserved mercy as his only hope. In order to choose God,
we must often tattle on ourselves. The power of sin is secrecy. The power of
God is confession. Sin requires you to fudge the numbers in order to appear
good. Salvation requires you to confess your failures in order to be forgiven.
