day no. 14,114: mistaking one for the other

Genesis 1:14-19

14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. 16 And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. 17 And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.

 

We again see that it is important to God that light and dark be separated and He sets certain things in motion to reinforce this fact. It's almost as if He knew we would often somehow mistake one for the other.

Genesis 1:11-13

11 And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. 12 The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.

An apple tree is never more free than when it produces apples. Kinds find slavery when they attempt to be something they are not. Cut off the apples, paste on some pears, but an apple tree you still be. There is no getting around it. God decides kinds.

Genesis 1:3-5

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

 

What God wanted, came to pass. He wanted light, so light sprang to attention. God brought light down to a formless, empty, dark world. And He separated the light from the darkness. It would seem that light and dark inherently had enough in contrast to infer their exclusivity, but God wanted to place His authoritative Word on that difference: light and dark are in fact and in function, different things.

Genesis 1:2

The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

 

The earth was without form, void and dark, but it had one very important thing going for it… God was near.

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

 

God was before our beginning. Before our story began, God was already. "In the beginning," is our start, but the Beginner of our world was a world unto Himself before ours was birthed.
