day no. 17,271: there are no good bargains on bad deals

“Never do a wrong thing to make a friend--or to keep one.” ― Robert E. Lee

A good friend cannot be gained by doing bad things. Whatever you do to gain something, you will have to keep on doing to retain them and good people cannot be won over by bad deeds.

1 Corinthians 15:33
Do not let anyone lead you astray. “Bad company corrupts good morals.”

The quality and character of any group has gravity. It pulls its people in a particular direction and as the apostle points out, bad friends bring down good people.

So, do not make friends through bad acting and do not act badly in order to keep someone you thought was a good friend.

The same can be said for churches. Do not gain members through bad doctrine or questionable practices and do not compromise in order to keep someone who insists that you do in order to hold their attention or to retain their membership on your roster.

Lastly, this applies also to the political arena. You cannot get votes by promising bad deals unless you are prepared to be a bad man. You also cannot promise to do bad things in order to retain the votes of people you thought were good men. I mean, you can, but you cannot retain the moral high ground by doing so. You can keep your job that way, but you cannot keep your soul that way.

In short, in every arena of life, there are no good bargains on bad deals.
