day no. 16,994: peace if possible, truth at all costs

“Peace if possible, truth at all costs.”— Martin Luther

We should be willing to pay what we can to see peace, but we must be prepared to pay everything we have to find the truth. There is a price that is too high for peace, but there is no such thing as cheap truth.

Jeremiah 6:14
They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, "Peace, peace;" when there is no peace.

There is a kind of peace that accepts coupons and there is such a thing as swap meet serenity, but those brands of peace don't keep because they aren't true. They may smell similar to the real thing for a moment, but the lasting stench is all stink. While the product may say, "peace," it peels off with the rest of the packaging. What you are left with looks nothing like the picture on the box.

Romans 12:18
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

We should be willing to pay full price for peace, but we should not be willing to go broke to buy it. If you go woke, you will go broke; and when you're broke you cannot afford the truth. When it comes to the truth, anything won't do. Half-truths may be half price, but the whole truth is expensive. It's a simple matter of supply and demand. There can only be one truth, so it will cost you everything.

John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

So, we must begin by giving up everything to go after the truth and then we must pick up whatever peace we can along the way. That path ends in true peace. Bargain bin brotherhoods take you off the narrow path and end in betrayal.
