Song of Solomon 8:6-7
Set me as a seal upon your heart,
as a seal upon your arm,
for love is strong as death,
jealousy is fierce as the grave.
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
the very flame of the Lord.
Many waters cannot quench love,
neither can floods drown it.
If a man offered for love
all the wealth of his house,
he would be utterly despised.
Whatever love is, it is equally as certain as death. As sure as the grave waits patiently, so love perseveres resiliently. It is an indomitable flame unquenched by rapids or deluge. It will not be snuffed. It cannot be tamped. It burns without consuming its source. It is inexhaustible. Any attempt to limit it or quantify it down to the penny is perverse and met with the open rebuke of "ignorance!" to the prospective haggler.
