day no. 13,164: a stroll through 2 Corinthians 9 - giving ourselves away and getting more of God

2 Corinthians 9:6-8

Remember this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously.7 Each person should do as he has decided in his heart—not reluctantly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver.8 And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.

God provides the means to give.

The one who gives, gets more of God.
The one who holds on to what they have, holds on to seeds that fail to produce fruit.
They end up with less by trying to hold on to what they have.

2 Corinthians 9:11

You will be enriched in every way for all generosity, which produces thanksgiving to God through us.

When you give, you get more of God and others get the opportunity to give gratitude and glory to God for your gift.

Everyone gets from God when you give.

So why withhold from yourself and your neighbor the growing opportunity to glorify God in gratitude for His gifts to us?

Giving away our treasure is consistent with our confession of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We demonstrate we have received His gift by giving to others in similar fashion.

And this not for our own glory and admiration from our neighbor, but for our clear consciences before God and man and our neighbor’s attraction and appreciation of the Gospel of Jesus for themselves.

2 Corinthians 9:15

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift.

We give because He first gave.
We live because He lives.
We love because He first loved us.

First things first.
He is before all things.
Let’s follow hard after Him.
