day no. 17,208: well, that's not very convenient

“But one of our current problems is that we are a convenience store civilization, and we want the next iteration of our civilization to be obtainable the same way we get coffee at the convenience store. We want to plonk our two dollars on the counter and walk out of there with the coffee.” —Douglas Wilson, Mere Christendom

You cannot get an off the rack kind of kingdom. There is no convenient store Christianity. Maranatha cannot be microwaved. It takes time and it will take faith, not to mention faithfulness.

"The Christian faith lives in the light of eternity, and can afford to be patient." — Christopher Dawson

We want to see short term gains, but we do not settle for them. We are playing the long game. This is no long con, it is entirely above board and done in broad daylight. So much so that can be accused of trying to immanentize the eschaton. But friends don't let friends do that and Christians don't want a quick fix as much as they want a crucifix. Only the Cross of Christ can cure the world of its carping envy and raging bitterness.
