Blood and soil are better equipped to describe a situation than psychobabble and therapy speak. Psychology and sociology have invented long, complicated words for everyday, common, occurrences. By attempting to elevate them to a place of prominence, however, they have promoted them beyond their capacity to be appreciated without being distorted. The best basis for relating to one another is the thousands of years of human experience, not a one week old diagnosis. We need to stop delegating our soul work to the "experts" and remember our long, storied past of hauling ourselves up before the Lord on Sunday and the mirror of His Word often. By looking to Him, we will see ourselves, and as a result, our neighbor more clearly, or perhaps, even for the first time. We understand each other better by looking to Christ than we do by looking inside or trying to look into the motives of others.
“Dragon-lore is truer than therapy-speak.” — Douglas Wilson, Future Men
Blood, fire, swords, dragons, good, and evil are better equipped to carry the weight of the human experience than the field manuals and dictionaries of the pseudo-sciences. Fairy tales are more realistic than Freud and better at relaying the truth of humanity than hours spent babbling on a couch. The Spirit of God is more in touch with humanity than the those building the tower of psychobabble. Rest assured, their project will fall to pieces as they slowly realize that they cannot communicate with the soul as well as they thought they could. As reality becomes increasingly out of line with their surreality, their labels will be abandoned and humanity will rediscover who they are as they again hear the echoes of Eden.
